What is IVF
A
Mother is given FSH and LH which stimulates maturation of eggs and ovulation
Eggs are fertilised using sperm in a laboratory-then developed into embryos
1 or 2 embryos are inserted into the mothers womb

A
Can give an infertile couple a child

Cons of IVF
A
- Expensive procedure
-Multiple births- risky for the baby and mother( high risk of miscarriage) - Low success rate- average success rate is 26% in the uk
It is very emotionally and physically stressful

Why are some people against IVF
A
IVF results in unused embryos that are eventually destroyed (so unethical)
It could lead to the selection of preferred characteristics such as gender or eye colour
