What does denatured mean?
When an enzyme changes shape because of temperature which will effect rate of reaction
What does optimum temperature mean?
The temperature an enzyme works it’s best at and is most active.
What is a break down reaction called?
Degradation
What is a build up reaction called?
Synthesis
What is the active site?
The part of the enzyme which binds to the substrate
What does complementary mean?
“Fits together”. E.g. The active site is complementary to the substrate
What is an enzyme?
A biological catalyst
What is a catalyst?
Something that speeds up a chemical reaction without being changed itself
What does Enzyme-substrate-complex mean?
The term used when the enzyme has bonded to the substrate.
How is the shape and function of a protein determined?
The sequence of amino acids.
