how does episcleritis present?

A

acute onset unilateral features
localised or diffuse redness - patch of red on outer sclera
NO Pain
dilated episclera veins

how can you distinguish between scleritis and episcleritis?

A

scler- photophobia, discharge, redcued visual acuity
phenylephrine eye drops - no affect

epi- mp photophobia, no pain
phyenlephrine eye drops - cause blanching of episcleritc vessels

how do you manage episceleritis?

A

self limiting
resolves in 1-2 weeks
might want analgesia/ ;lubricating eye drops
