17
Q

Anthony Nolan bone marrow / stem cells procedure?

A

Must be with an Anthony Nolan rep (with letter)- not conside

Must be in locker or under seat, not in hold

18
Q

How should ground vehicles be parked?

A

Parallel to plane so if they run away there is no collision with plane

Clear of left side of plane (egress)

19
Q

Why would you refuse embarkation?

A

Statutory authority to refuse anyone who is hazard to aircraft or passengers

Drunk, drugged, mental or physical illness

20
Q

What is active frost?

A

Aircraft skin at or below 0ºc or dewpoint.

21
Q

What is clear ice / cold soak?
What is (hoar) frost?

A

Smooth with some air pockets

When snow melts and refreezes

If tanks are full of cooled fuel (even when OAT +15ºc)

Frost when temperature and dew point close, DP < 0ºc. Happens after cold and cloudless night (warm front).

22
Q

What is freezing drizzle / freezing fog?

A

Freezing drizzle fine drops <0.5mm

Freezing fog when visibility < 1km

23
Q

Frozen precipitation diameters

A

Snow grains <1mm
Snow pellets 1-5mm
Ice pellets < 5 mm
Freezing rain > 5mm
Hail 5-50mm

24
Q

When should ground crew check for morning de-icing?

A

At least 3 hours before a morning departure

Also on extended turn arounds

25
Q

What fluids used for a two-step procedure?

What are the different fluid types?

A

De-ice with Type I
Anti-ice with Type II/IV

Type I- orange / clear. Not viscous

Type II- straw. Thickening agent. Lower glycol

Type IV- green. Same viscosity as II, but advanced thickening agents

26
Q

When is fluid refreezing a hazard?

A

When de/anti ice fluid is diluted with precipitation, runs down the fuselage and refreezes on probes.

Also, melted fluid can run up the windscreen during TO acceleration

27
Q

What anti-icing details do I need to record?

A

Type
Fluid:water ratio
Local time- beginning of final step
