ECDIS Flashcards
C/O Wants you to check the passage plan on ECDIS, What are your actions?
First, I would run the “route check” tool on ECDIS and see if any it generates anything, I would then go through each item to make sure nothing has been missed. I would also go over the whole route zoomed in just incase the system itself missed anything. If I see anything to cause concern I will inform the Chief Officer.
ECDIS has an ETA function which is important, why?
Knowing the ETA is important for a lot of reasons:
To Know the time of arrival at ports for berth arrangements, pilots, cargo or guest operations
For navigation you know when you will arrive at certain waypoints or areas to help plan the Nav watch schedule or places where you might want to pass it daylight hours
It helps with fuel consumption management
How do you know its an ECDIS and not an ECS
If the system is certified to meet IMO standards, it is likely an ECDIS.
Reviewing the manufacturer’s documentation or specifications
Type approval certificate
How do you check if you have the correct chart symbols on ECDIS?
