Q

how does film screen radiography work

A

the xray film and the intesifying screens work together to produce an xray image

the intensifying films contain phosphor crystals which absorb xray energy when exposed to radiation. this xray energy ius then converted into visible light which is then emitted

the xray film contains an emulsion that is sensitive to visible light and when it is exposed to visible light it turns black and produces a latent image which is only visaible once processed

Q

explain image viewing process

A

xray fil images are viewed in a light box and any findings are reported to a dictophone

Q

explain the image storage process

A

the xray fil is returned to the referrer via an xray packet containing the patients entire radiology history

Q

explain the silver recovery process after the film has been used

A

this is the process in which silver is recycled from used xray films as silver salts are deposited during the image production process

the xray film is shredded and placed in cyanide solution which leaches the silver and the silver is separated from the solution via electrolysis

Q

what are the benifits of film radiography

A

benifits:
cheap
silver recovery
tried and tested technique which has been used for years
permanent record which leaves little room for tampering
