Homeostasis Flashcards
What is Homeostasis?
The regulation of conditions inside the body to maintain a stable internal environment, in response to both internal and external conditions.
Name the three parts of automatic control systems?
Receptors, Effectors, Coordination Centres
What do Receptors do?
They detect a change
What do Effectors do?
They carry out the change
What do Coordination Centres do?
Interpret the change and say what needs to be done
What does the nervous system do?
It send’s very fast + precise electrical impulses through nerves, responds quickly
What does the endocrine system do?
releases hormones into the blood stream through the entire body, and it’s also slower, longer-lasting and more generalised than the nervous system.
What does negative feedback do?
It does the opposite of the change
Give two examples of coordination centres?
Brain, Spinal Chord
Give two examples of effectors?
Muscle’s, Gland’s
