A

A female reproductive organ in which the development of the ova takes place.
○ Woman has uteras (womb) and ovaries.
○ Ovary contains hundreds of thousand of immature ova.
○ Are present from birth.
○ When a girl start puberty it starts developing.

ovulation

A

When an ovum is released from an ovary.
○ Ovum passes down the Fallopian tube into the womb.
○ Occurs roughly 14 days after the start of menstruation.
○ The next menstruation begins on the 29th day if the ovum is not fertilized.
○ From puberty an egg cell (ovum) matures approximately once a month.
○ Ovum/egg cells live for twelve to twenty four hours after ovulation.
§ Residues will be absorbed into the bloodstreams via the Fallopian Tube.
§ If the egg cell is fertilized after ovulation it stays alive.
□ It develops in the womb into a baby -> pregnant

Thin folds of skin that meet at the top.
· There are glands in the wall of the inner labia that produce mucus during sexual arousal.
○ Makes the entrance to the vagina slippery.

A

The wall of the womb that consists of a thick layer of muscle that is covered on the inside with mucous lining.
○ Contains a lot of blood vessels
○ About one a month it comes loose. -> Also releases blood.

Menstrual cycle

A

The repeated build-up and elimination of the endometrium.
○ This is how the womb is preparing itself for a possible pregnancy.
○ Day 1: Start of menstrutation, womb lining is discharged.
○ Day 5: Womb lining start to build up again.
○ Day 14: Ovulation
○ Day 28: Last day of the cycle, womb lining stops building up.
