Hidden curriculum
Things pupils learn through the experience of attending school rather than the stated aims of the school
Subservient workforce
Students who accept authority,are rewarded with high grades for perseverance, punctually and dependability this creates an unimaginative and unquestioning workforce that could easily be manipulated by employers
Acceptance of hierarchy
Teachers give orders and students obey, students nave little choice over the subjects they study and now they study them: prepares them for the workplace,
External rewards
Students are motivated by qualifications rather than school life, many students don’t enjoy school by qualifications give them promises of employment: this mirrors the workplace as many employers are motivated purely through their wage packet
Fragmentation
Students school days are broken up by lesson, between lessons little connection is made and academic knowledge is being fragmented by subject. Most factory/office jobs have their day broken down to specific tasks and are kept away from other employees to increase efficiency
Capitalism
An economic system in which a society’s means of production are held by private individuals/organisations and not the government and where products, prices and the distribution of goods are determined mainly by competition In a free market
Correspondence principle
There are close parallels between schooling and work in a capitalist society
Ideological state apparatus
Controlling peoples beliefs, values and thoughts obscuring the reality of exploitation and ensures people are in a state of false class consciousness
Hegemony
The domination of one group ( the ruling class) or ideology over others and the acceptance/consent to them by the rest of society
