  1. Surprise - The success or failure of any ambush hinges, almost exclusively, on surprise. What are the ways to maintain surprise? N3DA4 (NoNo-NADA-Avoid Ambush)

  1. No unnecessary movement during reconnaissance and occupation of ambush site or while at the site.
  2. No person should leave any trails of “Tell-Tale” signs while occupying the site of the ambush.
  3. Natural vegetation in and around the ambush should not be disturbed.
  4. Detain civilians who have discovered the ambush till the site is vacated.
  5. Ambush party will have to be carefully selected and distributed. Each party should have a concealed place to stay to avoid detection/suspicion.
  6. Approach the ambush site from concealed place or during night.
  7. All weapons should be kept loaded and ready to fire in advance to avoid unnecessary movement or noise when the hostile get into ambush.
  8. Avoid smoke by day and light by night.
