Transport Of Plant Flashcards
Role of xylem
In Plant?
1.made of hallow dead cells joined end to end
2.end walls of cells disappeared, long open tube is formed
3.run from roots of plants right up through stem branch out into every leaf
4.no cytoplasm
5.walls made of cellulose and lignin
Function of phloem
Transport sucrose and ammino acid up and down
Why walls of xylem made of cellulose and lignin?
Help xylem vessel keep plant upright
Functions of xylem?
Transport water and minerals up from root to other plants of the plant
What is meant by transpiration?
Loss of water from plant leaves by evaporation of water at the surfaces of the mesophyll cells followed by loss of.water vapour through stomata by diffusion
What is meant by transpiration stream?
Water in leaves will travel to the cells by osmosis to replace it
What meant by vyscular bundle?
Group of specialised tissue ,xylem and phloem that transport water, dissolved salts, food throughout plant
Importance of transpiration
1.water for keeping plant turgid
2.water for photosynthesis
3. transport of mineral ions
4.keeping leaves cool
Usauge of nitrate
Ammino acid for protein
Why transpiration keep leaves cool by evaporative cooling?
To maintain optimum temperature of enzyme
How water is absorbed by root hair cell?
Water movement by osmosis high water potential to low water potential through semi peremeable membrane
Position of vascular bundle in root?
At center
Position of vuscular bundle in shoot?
near outside edge
Position of vascular bundles in leaves?
Jn mesophyll tissue
Why shoot arranged in a ring near outside edge?
Help to support stem
