Q

Ko koe ki tēnā, ko ahau ki tēnei kīwai o te kete

A

You hold that handle, and I will hold this handle of the basket

This whakataukī / proverb refers to the importance of partnership and working together, and how it takes more than one individual to carry a heavy basket.

The journey to address racism can be challenging and while it is not the responsibility of Māori and minority groups to culturally educate others or solve these issues alone, it is important to begin discussions with these communities and understand the adversity they face, every day.

By engaging in these discussions and standing by those afflicted by racism, you ensure there is always someone there, standing beside them, holding the other handle of the kete.
