A

The first document to restrict the king’s power. It was forcefully signed by King John in 1215.

Parliament

A

It was formed under the Magna Carta to form great council to work under king. The two houses of legislature were the House of Lords and the House of Commons. The Parliament’s greatest power was to approve taxes, Power of the Purse.

  • the four rights are:
    taxing $ for the king’s personal use is illegal
    keeping an army prepared to fight in a time of peace w/o asking the Parliament is illegal
    anyone can vote for members of the Parliament
    what the parliament says is law and cannot be changed by commoners
  • the monarch couldn’t impose taxes or organize his own army without the parliament’s permission
