Q

The 7 Signs of a Chemical Change

A
  1. Gas (bubbles) or solid (precipitate) produced (not phase change)
  2. Color Change
  3. Temp. increased or decreased
  4. Light given off (emitted)
  5. Odor Produced
  6. Sound Produced
*Not all chemical changes meet requirements + often irrerservible
*Signs not proof of chemical change

Q

What is the Law of Conservation of Mass?

A
  • Matter neither created or destroyed in chemical reaction
  • CLOSED SYSTEM mass of reactants = mass of products
  • Matter (atoms/molecules) REARRANGED

8
Q

In the Law of Conservation of Mass, why does it need to be a closed system?

A

Matter could escape if open system–> inaccurate results –> needs closed system
