Define Modern Day Slavery - Modern Slavery Act 2015

A

A person commits an offence if:

a) The person holds another person in slavery or servitude and the circumstances are such that the person knows or ought to know that the other person is held in slavery or servitude, or
b) The person requires another person to perform forced or compulsory labour and the circumstance are such that the person knows or ought to know that the other person is being required to perform force or compulsory labour

  • Lack of money/control over own finances or lack of access to earnings, receiving cash for work
  • Living/sleeping in the place of work
  • Not wearing clothes suitable for work or weather, unkempt appearance
  • Limited contact with family and limited social contact taken to and from work
  • Others seeking to speak for the person you are trying to engage with, no eye contact
  • Living or found in ‘degrading’ conditions
  • Unkempt, dirty, tired, appearance

  • Children living with non relevant families, children not in education
  • Signs of branding/ownership
