-lower wages in Poland : median met 9,700 whilst UK was 16,400
-unemployment rate in Poland was about 19%
Pull Factors:
-Better paid jobs: 68% move in search of work
-family links: 11% move to rejoin family members
-education opportunities: 21% move to study
IMPACTS
POSITIVE on Poland (origin):
-remittances from migrants to family into origin country are great for the development of the economy
On UK (destination):
-Polish contribute to the economy by working in sectors in which British didn’t want to work: 250 000 applied for worker status in 2015
On migrants:
-Less likely to be unemployed

NEGATIVE impacts on Poland:
-“Brain Drain”: puts at risk future innovation of the country
On UK:
-Wages are not all spent in the UK
-demand for housing increase
On migrants:
-many negative attitudes towards polish leading in some cases to abuse

-poor employment opportunities: 90% of population lives below the poverty line
-lack of security
Pull factors:
-access to cheap healthcare through NHS as well as free education IF granted asylum
-wider range of job opportunities
-safe and stable country

-Syria adds to the cultural diversity
-many Syrian refugees already speak English

-remittances: money sent back to Syria helping families situation as well as economic development of the country
