CAUSES:
-high life expectancy: 80 for men and 86 for women due to healthy diets, good quality of life, good healthcare and welfare systems (210 doctors x 100 000)
-low BR: 7 x 1000
-number of couples getting married decreases
-age at which they have children increases
IMPACTS:
-declining workforce means less tax income which has declined by 12M since 2000
-companies have had to raise their wages to attract foreign workers
-schools and colleges close: schools closing at a rate of 400-500 x year
SOLUTIONS
-Japan has increased the age at which a person can receive a state pension
-tax increase
