Presentation
Joints: arthritis,effusion
Skin:
- Butterfly rash
- localized erythema and edema
- alopecia (loss of hair)
- photosensitive
- mucosal ulcer
- Raynaud’s
Blood: formation of DVT,PE, low blood cell count
Lungs: pleuritis
Kidney: impaired kidney function
CNS: seizure, transverse myelitis, CVA
Hear:inflammation and valve dysfunction
Scleroderma
- fibrous degeneration of connective tissue of the skin, lungs and internal organs
- lead to:
Joint contractures
pulmonary fibrosis
GI dysmotility
tight, drawn skin
Ehlers-danlos
Cause:
- Genetic
- defect in collagen synthesis
S&S:
- associated with hypermobility and can affect the cardiac muscle
Larsen syndrome
Cause:
- Genetic
S&S
- Prominent forehead
- Widespread eyes
- Multiple joint dislocation
- Foot deformities
Marfan’s syndrome
Cause:
- Genetic disease
- lack of fibrillin
S&S:
- long hands
- loose joints, scoliosis
- involves the heart and eyes
