A
- Jackson finds his way onto a late running train. He sees a couple of soldiers on the train. His business card now says “Jackson Brodie - Security Consultant”.
- Jackson is crammed into an uncomfortable seat at a table of 4. Coughing business man on laptop, an elderly woman reading a novel, and a buxom woman of about 40. Jackson idly wonders if they’d held one another in an emergency, he helped at the scene of a train crash as a young policeman.
- Jackson finds himself thinking about Louise.
- when the old woman asks if they’ve passed the Angel of North. Jackson realises she thinks they’re headed North and doesn’t know how to break it to her that’s it’s a southbound train. He does but the woman corrects him saying “where do you think we’re going?” Jackson doesn’t believe her, but the other woman confirms they’re heading to Edinburgh.
- a sudden jolt in the carriage startles everyone. Jackson is more concerned he caught the wrong train, the woman in the Yorkshire Dales was right - he is going the wrong way.
