What is a pure substance?
Something that contains only one type of element or compound.
What do pure substances melt and boil at?
Specific temperatures.
How can you test the purity of a sample?
By measuring its melting or boiling point and comparing it to pure substances which you can find from a data book.
What temperature do impure substances melt and boil at?
They don’t have a specific melting or boiling point. They melt and boil over a range of temperatures.
How do impurities affect the melting and boiling point?
It will decrease the melting point and increase the boiling point.
What is a formulation?
A useful mixture with a precise purpose that has been made by following a formula.
What are examples of formulations?
