Tests for anions Flashcards
1
Q
What is the test for carbonate ions?
A
- Put a sample in a test tube and add a couple drops of dilute acid.
- Connect the test tube to a test tube of limewater and the limewater should turn cloudy.
2
Q
What is the test for sulfate ions?
A
Add a couple drops of dilute hydrochloric acid followed by a couple drops of barium chloride solution to a test tube containing your mystery solution and a white precipitate should form.
3
Q
What is the test for halide ions?
A
Add a couple drops of dilute nitric acid followed by a couple drops of silver nitrate solution to your mystery solution.
A chloride gives a white precipitate of silver chloride.
A bromide gives a cream precipitate of silver bromide.
An iodide gives a yellow precipitate of silver iodide.
