the brain Flashcards
cerrubulum?
top of the brain, split into two halfes, cerebal hemispheres, outer is the cortex
contralateral?
sense and controls the opposite sides of the body, move right arm signal is sent from the left side of the brain
cortex?
2-4 mm thick (grey matter) mostly cell body’s - white matter (mostly axons) connections between the neurons, folded, larger surface area, processing
temporal lobe?
understand and produces spoken language
frontal lobe?
concious thought, planning, memory, problem solving, facial expressions
parietal lobe?
processes touch sensations from around the body and brings together info from other parts of the brain
occipital lobe?
proccess of visual info
localisation and function?
brains abilities are not evenly spread across the brain and are located in particular places
motor cortex?
area in frontal lobe that controls voluntary movement, one in each hemisiphere
somatosensory cortex?
area in parietal lobe that detects sensation from around body, one in each hemisphere
visual cortex?
area in occupital lobe that proccesess visual info
auditory?
temporal lobe processing of sound info
specialised language areas?
only in the left hemisphere, brocas area: speech production, wernickes area is responsible for understanding speech
where are the areas of language in the brain?
located on the left side so if we were to damage our brain on the left it would affect language
brocas area?
left frontal lobe - speech production - damage - aphasia - difficulty in remembering and forming words
