Independent vs Dependent vs Control
Independent: Variable you change
Dependent: Variable you measure
Control: Variable to remain constant for accurate results
Levels of Evidence
Level 1:
- Systematic Review (Meta-analysis)
- Randomized control trials
Level 2:
Cohort studies
Level 3
Case-controlled studies
Level 4
Case report
Level 5
Expert opinion
Sensitivity vs Specificity
High sensitivity
= good to rule out =able to detect true positive
High specificity
= good to rule in =able to detect true negative
Ordinal data
- Ranking
- Can’t tell the true difference/distance between each level
e.g. Mild/Mod/Heavy Assistance
Nominal data
- Categorized
- No order between each category
e.g. Gender, ethnicity
Interval data
- ranked, evenly spaced out
- No true zero
E.g. temperature in C/F, IQ score
Ratio data
- ranked, evenly spaced out
- have true zero
E.g. Body weight/age/height
