How are X-ray photons produced

A

Produced when fast-moving electrons (accelerated by cathode) are suddenly stopped by the impact with the anode

The kinetic energy of electrons is converted into X-ray photons and into heat

What is thermionic emission

A

Electrons emitted from cathode:

Material heated so KE of atoms increases. Outer electrons are more loosely bound so when collisions occur some electrons are liberated leaving the material with a + charge
