Q

What is the CPR syndicate?

A

Around 1876 McDonald was re elected and needed investors for the CPR (investors = CPR Syndicate)

They needed investors because the CPR could not be built without a large amount of funding.

Later in 1883 the CPR funding was running out of money. George Stephan and Donald Smith (both part of the CPR syndicate) pledged their entire personal fortunes.
