Cardiology Flashcards
What tissue does the heart arise from?
Mesoderm
When does the upper cardiac tube begin beating?
Day, 20
What direction does the linear cardiac to bend toward?
The linear tube begins to bend toward the right side on day 21. Right sided or D – looping.
When is heart formation complete?
Hart formation is complete by 7 to 8 weeks gestation
What cardiac output does the placenta receive?
45%. It is the organ with the lowest vascular resistance.
What keeps the DA patent in utero?
Prostaglandins (PGE2)
Prostacyclin (PGI2)
Thromboxane A2
E2 I2 A2… all end in 2 (in u2ero)
What prostaglandin keeps the DA, Open in utero versus the medication we give.
PGE2 in u2ero
PGE1 is the IV prostin we give
What is the oxygen saturation of the umbilical vein?
70 to 80%
PO2 of 27-35
What are on the x and y axis of the oxyhemaglobin curve?
X (horizontal/bottom) pO2
Y (vertical/top) HbO2 sat %
How does fetal hemoglobin affect the oxy hemoglobin graph?
It is shifted to the right. it has more affinity for oxygen. So at the same PO two, more will be saturated.
Mean BP Equation
MAP = DBP + 1/3 (SBP-DBP)
What are the nine cyanotic heart lesions?
Transposition. Tetralogy. TAPVR. Truck for Theresa. Truncus
Single ventricle.
Pulmonary Trisha
Epstein anomaly.
DORV
If you have 5Ts you’ll go to SPED.
Tuberous sclerosis and cardiac
Auto Dom, chromosome 9 & 16
Rhabdo in Heart
Ashleaf spot - hypopigmentation
Woods lamp
When does cardiogenesis begin?
Beat? Separations?
5th - paired heart tubes
6th - beating
7-8th - separation
Best cheer voice: “OK! 5, 6, 7, 8! Form the heart and separate!”
Make the 6 aortic arches
1,2 disappear early. 1 maxillary
3 carotid artery
4 subclavian (right), aortic arch (left)
5 involutes
6 PDA (left)
