Part 2 Of Inheritance Flashcards
What is meant by mutation?
Random change in sequence of bases of DNA that could lead to change in sequence of ammino acid in a protein lead to change in the phenotype of an inividual
I need examples of mutation
Duplication, deletion, substitution inversion
Example of mutagens(agents that increase incidence of mutation
.exposure to ionizing radiation (gamma rays, xrays, ultravioletrays
.exposure to chemical mutagens
Example of mutation (diseases)
Cancer
Sickle cell anemia
Antibiotic resistant bacteria
What is meant by variation?
Difference between individual of the same species
What are the causes of variation?
Random fertilization
Mutation
Environment
What is meant by evolution?
It is the gradual change of inherited features of species over time through a process of natural selection
Describe the theory of evolution caused by natural selection?
Mutation causes variation within species
Individual with the advantageous features can survive and reproduce passing thier allelle to their offspring and increase in number
Can you describe the antibiotic resistance in bacteria by natural selection?
Wrong use of antibiotic will result in bacteria undergoing mutation and devolp new allele cause antibiotic resistance
Non resistant bacteria will die
Resistant bacteria will survive, reproduce and pass their allele to their offspring
What I’d meant by a polymeric inheritance?
Characteristics that are controlled by more than one gene
Examples of polygenic inheritance?
Human height
Iris pigmentation
Compare between mitosis and meiosis
Mitosis gives rise 2 genetically identical daughter cell but Meiosis causes variation
Mitosis have 2 daughter cells and full St of chromosome but meiosis rise 4 daughter cell ,mitosis happen in growth, tissue repair
,asexual reproduction but meiosis happen in sexual reproduction p
