In warm, humid environments (e.g. Under carpets)
How long do eggs take to hatch?
2-14 days
What do larva eat?
Mainly flea faeces but also organic debris, flea eggs and other larvae
How long does the larvae take to develop?
9 days to around 200 days (in winter)
How long does it take a Pupa to develop?
2-3 weeks
How long can a Pupa stay dormant for?
Up to a year
What stimuli wakes up a pupa?
Vibrations and increase in CO2 levels
How long can a flea survive before its first meal?
A few weeks
How long can a fleas survive after their first meal?
Less than four days
Do fleas live a direct or indirect parasitic lifecycle?
Direct (live on one host for their entire life)
What condition can young animals suffer from when infested with fleas?
Flea anaemia (huge blood loss)
What condition can cats get from fleas?
Feline Hemotropic Mycoplasmosis - bacteria cause mass death of RBCs (erythrocytes) in cats
