Q

how does water affect photosynthesis

A

its needed as an input and a lack of water makes plants plants lose their turgor and their stomata close, preventing gas exchange, including the absorption of CO2

Q

how does light intensity affect photosynthesis

A

light is required in the light dependent stage of photosynthesis to provide energy required to split thw water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen

Q

graph of light intensity

A

there is a point reached where increasing light intensity does not include the rate of reaction, called light saturation, the graph then platoes

Q

light saturation

A

occurs when more ATP and NADPH are produced that is required by the light independent

Q

light compensation

A

the light insenity at which the rate of photosynthesis is equual to the rate of cellular respiration, all oxygen and CO2 produced is used

Q

how does carbon dioxide affect photosynthesis

A

as carbon dioxide increases so does the rate of photosynthesis as long as there is enough RuBisCO to catalyse the reaction, as long as tthere is enough ATP and NADPH from the light dependent stage, carbon dioxide also raises the light saturation point as more ATP and NADPH is being used

Q

how do higher temps affect photosynthesis

A

more kinetic energy, causing more collisions between enzymes and substrates leading to more products being formed, above the optimum temp RuBisCO has a higher affinity for O2 so rate of reaction decreases, if too high temps, enzymes become denatured

Q

low temperature affect on photosynthesis

A

decreased rate of reaction as less kinetic energy, inreasing light temp doesn’t havemuchh affect as it does when increasing at higher temps
