When was the Archduke Franz Ferdinand assassinated?
He was assassinated on the 28th of June 1914.
What was the Schlieffen plan used for and who invented it?
The Schlieffen plan was used in case Germany was ever surrounded by enemies and was forced to fight a two-front war. The plan was made in 1905 by Alfred von Schlieffen.
Why was Archduke Franz Ferdinand assassinated?
He was assassinated by a member of the black hand. The radical group believed that if Austria attacked Serbia then Russia would help defeat Austria. Serbia would be able to get Bosnian back.
Why did the Schlieffen plan fail?
It failed because the plan was based on assumptions. The Russians mobilized in 10 days, and the Belgium army slowed the German army down and destroyed some of the train tracks, so it would take a longer time transporting the troops to defend Russia. Also, the Germans assumed that Britain wouldn’t join the war even though they had signed a treaty with Belgium. Also, the German soldiers had to cover a lot of ground each day, so the German army was suffering from exhaustion
What is the race for the sea?
It was when both sides tried to outflank each other, so the trenches were dug until they reached sea.
What caused the naval arms race?
Competition between Britain and Germany to produce more dreadnaughts and Nassaus. This is an example of militarism.
