Q

What is a food web and its difference to a food chain.?

A

The food web shows which animal eats another one. Each arrow shows the flow of energy between each organism. A food web is much more complex than a food chain as it can show the entire ecosystem instead of just a few animals.

Q

What is a producer and how is it different to a consumer?

A

A producer is an organism that produces its food through sunlight. Consumers eat other consumers or producers to gain the energy to survive. They cannot make their food.

Q

What is eutrophication?

A

What is eutrophication?
Eutrophication is when fertilizer runs off into a body of water. Then all the plants take in the fertilizer and grow quickly. Then the algae starts to bloom and blocks sunlight from the plants underwater. The plants underwater die and decomposers start to decompose these dead plants. As a result, the decomposer uses a lot of the oxygen in the water causing fishes and other sea animals to die.

Q

Difference between carnivorous, herbivores and omnivores.

A

Carnivores eat meat to get the energy they need, herbivores only eat plants and omnivores eat meat and plants.

Q

How do you know if an organism is living or not?

A

The organism will do MRS GREN. It stands for movement, respiration, sensitivity, growth, reproduction, excretion and nutrition. Also, it must be made of cells.

Q

Why do we maintain biodiversity?

A

We maintain it to help find a medical product that can help against certain diseases and viruses. Also, when the climate changes, some animals may become extinct, so we need to find a different species to eat.

Q

What is photosynthesis and its formula?

A

Photosynthesis is the process in which plants use sunlight to transform it into an energy the plant can use. The formula is 6CO2+6H2O⇒ C6H12O6

Q

Commensalism vs mutualism

A

Commensalism is when only one species benefits off another species. Mutualism is when both species benefit from each other.

15
Q

How much energy is gained when eating another animal?

A

Only 10% of the energy is passed onto the next organism. The rest is lost through heat and excretion.

16
Q

What helps organisms survive in different ecosystems?

A

Adaptations help organisms survive in different conditions.

17
Q

What is ecology?

A

A biology topic that studies how organisms interact with each other and its environment.

18
Q

What kinds of pollution are there?

A

There is air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution and noise pollution.

19
Q

What is symbiosis?

A

Symbiosis is the relationship between species that can be beneficial or harmful to individuals.

20
Q

What is the carbon cycle?

A

Carbon is the foundation of life. The cycle is like this: animals are made of carbon atoms. When we respire carbon dioxide is released into the air and it will be absorbed by trees through photosynthesis. When the plant dies it will decompose into the soil. Or if an animal is buried, the pressure on top will compress it into fossil fuels.
