t6-inheritance Flashcards
what are dominant alleles
always expressed even if there’s only one copy
-capital letter
what are recessive alleles
only expressed if there are 2 copies and doesn’t have the dominant allele
-lowercase letter
what are homozygous alleles
-identical for the same characteristic eg. AA or aa
what are heterozygous alleles
-different for the same characteristic eg. Aa
how can you get CF
-have 2 copies of the defective allele (c)
-inherit a defective allele from both parents
what if you have one defective allele for CF
-you won’t have CF, but you’ll be a carrier
how can you get polydactyly
-have a polydactyly allele and a normal allel (Cc)
-if you have a dominant allele, you’ll have it
what is a genotype
the collection of alleles that determine an organism’s characteristics
