2.3 - Periodisation Flashcards
What is periodisation?
The organised division of training blocks, each with a goal and time frame
What are the aims of periodisation?
1) Reaching physiological peak at the correct time
2) Avoiding injury and burn out
3) Structured training to give realistic achievable goals
Name the periodisation cycles
Macrocycle
Mesocycle
Microcycle
What is a Macrocycle?
A long-term training plan, typically over a year, to achieve a long-term goal.
What is a Mesocycle?
A mid-term training plan, typically 6 weeks, to achieve a mid-term goal.
What is a Micro cycle?
A short-term training plan, typically 1 week, to achieve a short-term goal.
What is Tapering
Maintaining the intensity but decreasing the volume of training by one-third to prepare for the competition
