Q

Filtration

A

Separating a solid and liquid with use of a filter, fluid passes through and solid remains in filter

Q

Crystallisation

A

Forming crystals from a saturated solution. Heating up a homogenous solution so that the liquid evaporates and crystals form.

A

Solute + Solvent = Solution
eg
Salt + water = Salt water

Q

Chromatography

A

Separates mixtures of dissolved substances. Usually separates dyes.
Higher solubility = Higher on the paper

Q

Simple Distillation

A

Separates soluble liquids from solutions
Eg
Salt water heated to b.p. in a sealed round bottom flask. water becomes a gas and then condenses in a condenser. Pure water collected out of condenser

Q

Fractional distillation

A

Separates liquids with different boiling points.
From lowest to highest b.p.
