What is an independent variable?

A

The variable that is changed/manipulated by the experimenter to observe the change upon human behaviour.

What is a dependent variable?

A

The variable that is measured by the researcher. Any effect on the DV should be caused by the change in the IV.

What is an extraneous variable?

A

Anything that could influence the participants performance or behaviour that needs to be controlled.
