What are the advantages of replica dentures?

A

One less clinical stage
Denture similar shape to previous so easier to adapt
Better neuromuscular control - better adaptation
Less aesthetic changes - good if patient already happy
Minor design changes possible

What are the disadvantages of replica dentures?

A

Cannot make major design changes
Have to accept some design flaws - reproduce problems e.g. poor extension
EXACT copy not possible so need to manage patient expectations
May have been significant ridge resorption since OG dentures made so replicas not that suitable

What are the clinical stages of making a replica denture?

A
  1. Clean current denture and take impression of current denture with lab putty and stock trays. Cut notches in putty before removal of dentures to allow for relocation
  2. Master imps with record blocks and jaw reg at the one stage.
  3. Tooth trial
  4. Delivery
  5. Review
