Q

What is the name and characteristics of the southern bay on the Gower Peninsula?

A

The southern bay is known as Threecliff Bay, and gets its name from three linked points that have been created in the rock face due to steep dip of the rock strata and faults. It also has a natural arch created by fracturing along a diagonal fault, which is big enough to walk through at low tide.

Q

What is Worms Head an example of?

A

Worms head, located on the West face of the peninsula, is a tidal island separated from the mainland by a shore platform, exposed for about 2 and a half hours before and after low tide. It consists of three regions, the inner, middle and outer head. It is an example of an extended stack, separarated from the mainland after the collapse of an arch. It also contains examples of differential erosion, a rock bridge (Devils Bridge) created from a collapsed sea cave in the middle head, and a cave and blowhole on the outer head.
