Moche Human Sacrifice & El Niño, Huaca de la Luna Peru

A

Spanish societies have stories of people burning alive, flayed, decapitated, or having hearts ripped out. It is rare to have archeological findings on these cases. Steve Bourget found a site with at least 5 different ritual events. The body parts were scattered. Some were even covered in symbols.

Short Term Climate Change; Holocene

A

The last ice age ended about 12000 years ago. Sea levels rise 91 meters due to melting ice. This was due to an increase in global temperatures. Some believe this warming was continuous and is reflected in some of the world’s weather patterns today.

Q

Proxies

A

Sources of climatic information from natural archives that can help with assuming changing in climate conditions. We have the approximate ice age dates due to lots of proxies. Geological layers, deep sea cores, ice cores, and speleothems are all different examples of proxies.
