Chapter 4 Tissues Flashcards

1
Q

Name and describe the 4 Types of tissues in the human body.

A

1) Epithelial Tissue - Covers body surfaces, lines body cavities, hollow organs and ducts(tubes) and forms glands.
2)Connective Tissues - Protect and supports the body and organs. Binds organs together, stores energy reserves as fat and provides immunity.
3)Muscular Tissues - generates physical force needed to make body tissues move.
4)Nervous Tissues - Detects changes inside and outside body, transmits nerve impulses and coordinates body activities.

Q

What are the General Features of Epithelial Tissues?

A
  • Tightly packed cells with minimal extracellular material between cells - arranged in sheets or layers.
  • Multiple surfaces - Apical Surface is most superficial layer and basal layer is the deepest layer.
  • I Avascular but has nerve supply
  • Has a high capacity for renewal by cell division.

Q

What is the types of Cell arrangement of covering and lining epithelium?

A

1)Simple Epithelium - one layer.
2)pseudostratified - appears to be multiple layers because nuclei are at different levels.
3)stratified - Multiple layers - two or more.

Q

What is the different Cell Shapes of Covering and lining epithelium?

A

1)squamous - is flat and thin
2)Cuboidal - cube like - tall as they are wide.
3)Columnar - Rectangular
4)Transitional - Variable - changes shape.
