A

Hungary was too far away for military aid
Development of the arms race meant there was also the threat of nuclear warfare
The Suez crisis meant it was difficult for the west to criticize similar actions from the Soviets

A

Condensed a special inquiry into the events of 1956 but both Hungary and The Soviet Union refused to participate
The results condemned Kadar but nothing else

What did American do ?

A

Although the government didn’t do much the American people certainly did
One example being Ed Sullivan a popular US television presenter
He asked his viewers to send aid to Hungary and in total was able to send $6 million worth of aid by 1957

What did the Soviet Union do ?

A

It maintained its empire and sent out a warning to its satellite states to not rebel or think of breaking away
Krushchevs policy of de stalinisairon would only go as far as he wanted

Poland and Hungary made slow and gradual reforms but where firmly controlled by the Soviet Union
