1
Q

what is smouldering combustion?

Q

what is pyrolysis

A

the decomposition of molecules via heat, where oxygen is not required
initiates radical chain reactions

Q

fuel lean vs fuel rich

A

fuel lean = too much oxygen
fuel rich = too much fuel
need to find the middle ground = ‘combustion zone’

Q

limiting factors to a fire

A
  1. heat - first to go as it is quickly lost to the surroundings
  2. oxygen - oxygen gets depleted, reduced to a smoulder
  3. fuel - keeps burning until entire structure is destroyed
