Denture Design Flashcards

1
Q

What factors with the fitting surface can optimise retention and stability?

A

Greater base extension in the maxilla
- Full coverage of the denture bearing area.

Adequate post dam seal- at the vibrating line.
- close adaptation to the palate.

Adequate extension into the lingual pouch and the retromolar pad (2/3 the way along the retromolar pad).

Q

What factors with the occlusal surface can optimise retention and stability?

A

Ensure teeth are over the alveolar ridge in the lower denture- within the neutral zone.
- If lower teeth are too lingual, dislodged by the tongue.

Upper teeth are set slightly buccal?

Q

How can you determine the mould of teeth required for a complete denture?

A

Measure the distance between both canine lines- this will tell you the width from one canine to another.
- Use this value to which one corresponds to the mould guide.

Also measure the length and width of the central incisor- this will be on the mould as well.

Q

What factors influence the choice of posterior teeth?

A

Ridge resorption
- If the ridge is very narrow, need narrow teeth.

Neuromuscular control

Reproducibility of occlusal position

Q

When might you use cusp less teeth?
