In terms of clinical stages, what is the difference between replica and conventional dentures?

A

Replica has one less clinical stage- the master impressions and occlusion are registered at the same appointment.

A

Patient wants a spare denture

Staining of current denture

Worn teeth/overclosure but overall happy with aesthetics and fit

Improve tooth position

Fractured baseplate or teeth.

How do you take a primary impression for a replica denture?

A

Putty matrix into a dentate tray and then place denture into the tray.

Putty over the top and another tray on top of this.

So you get an impression of the fitting surface and the occlusal surface.

What is the closed mouth technique?

A

Put both trays in the mouth to take the impressions and then gently bite together- so the impression isn’t squint.

How do you register the occlusion for a replica denture?

A

Using bite registration paste on the posterior aspects of the replica block.

Cut relocation notches onto them to relocate them afterwards.
