Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Flashcards

Way it works

A

Proton nuclei magnetic resonance spectroscopy behave like tiny magnets, so when placed in a strong magnetic field some align with the field (lower energy) and the rest align against it (high energy).

Absorption of frequency in the radio frequency region of the spectrum cause 1H nuclei to flip from lower to higher energy alignment. As they fall back the emitted radiation is detected and this is then plotted on a spectrum.

High resolution NMR

A

High resolution uses higher radio frequencies than in low resolution. Provides more detailted spectra.
