A

Mandibular fracture types
 A. Greenstick
 B. Simple
 C. Comminuted
 D. Compound

Le Fort midfacial fractures.
 A. Le Fort I fracture

 C. Le Fort III fracture

Zygomatic complex fractures.
 A. Frontal view,
 B. Lateral view of isolated fracture
 C. Zygomatic arch fracture in

What are the signs and symptoms of a fractured jaw?

A

 Deformed, crooked, or shifted mandible
 Painful lump in the mandible or below the ear
 Malocclusion of the dentition
 Loose or missing teeth
 Painful swelling or bruised gingival soft tissue at
site of injury
 Difficulty opening or pain in the TMJ
 Numbness in the chin or lower lip

What is the difference between dislocated and fractured jaw?

A

Dislocated Jaw
* Jaw pain
* Malocclusion
* Inability to close mouth
* Protrusion of the jaw
* Pain limited to auricular area of dislocation
* Pain associated with movement of
temporomandibular joint

Fractured Jaw
* Jaw pain
* Malocclusion
* Difficulty opening or limited jaw movement
* Pain with biting or chewing
* Symmetric abnormality of cheek or jaw
* Numbness, swelling, and/or hematoma at site of trauma
* Hemorrhage from oral cavity

A

Call 911; ABC’s maintained
 Injury secondary to vital body functions
 Increased bleeding, breathing problems
 Skull, neck, or internal head injuries
 Temporary jaw stabilization and immobilization
