Portion of the volcano is protected by MT ETNA WORLD HERITAGE SITE.
Can only be used for recreation and research - mitigate houses lost etc…
How have locals prepared?
Built walls of volcanic rock around properties to slow the flow.

Mayor of Catania banned riding of bikes and scooters for 24rs.
Cars capped at a 30mph speed limit due to ash covering roads.
