Define aggression + example

A

Aggression is when an individual has an intent to harm, outside the rules of the game and behaviour is hostile and reactive.

-For example a rugby player angrily punches his opponent when getting up to play the ball.

A

-Well motivated behaviour within the rules of the game, the individual plays hard, perhaps with more effort than usual

-For example, a strong, quick and powerful serve in cricket

Causes of aggression

A

-Playing badly/losing
-Feeling that teammates are not trying
-Disagreement with the officials decision
-Provocation by opponent/crowd
-Important game eg. Final/local derby
-Religious/cultural reasons eg. Celtics v rangers
-contact sport (therefore expected) eg. Ice hockey/American football
-Naturally aggressive personality (instinct)
-Over arousal
-Social learning- imitation of role models
