Quote: “…the years from 1950 to 1959 were a time of optimism, domesticity, security through compliance with the system, and apparent simplicity.” (Fond memories)
Paraphrase: The “New Look” fashion that was introduced in 1947 was not simple to construct. Everything was full and padded and tailoring was complex. The idea, however, was very simple for women’s fashion. After the war they wanted women to look like women again. Evening wear became sexier with tighter, sparkling, clinging sheaths. (New Look)
Summary: Men’s clothing was very simple and comfortable. Example, grey flannel suits. While men’s fashion stayed simple women’s adventured. The comfortable sports wear was introduced and that became the American look. (American Look)
Jot list: Memories: Tail-Finned cars, hula hoops, poodle skirts, Elvis Presley, mothers I’m aprons. Seems soft and simple. Simple in all areas. (Fond Memories, Simplicity)
