Q

dihybrid cross

A

AaBb x AaBb
A hybrid is a mix of two things, and “di” means two. So we have two mixes, or the organism is heterozygous for both genes.
Results in the 9:3:3:1 ratio

Q

An individual with a normal hemoglobin gene and a sickle cell gene makes both proteins. A simple blood test shows that the patient has both kinds of hemoglobin, but they do not have the disease. There is no “recessive” gene. Is this an example of codominance or incomplete dominance?

A

Incomplete dominance.
There are only three phenotypes: all normal proteins, some of both proteins, or all sickle cell proteins (which causes sickle cell anemia)

Q

If the parents are AaBB and AaBb, how big of a Punnett square do you need to draw?

Q

If a parent of blood type AB and another parent of blood type O have children, what would the children’s blood types be? Which blood types are possible and which are not possible?

A

Type A and type B are possible

Type AB and type O are not possible.

Q

If a parent with type A blood and another parent with type B blood have children, which blood types are possible and which are not possible?

A

All blood types are possible if the parents are heterozygous.
If the parents are both homozygous dominant, then only blood type AB is possible.
