1B- Ecosystems Flashcards
(11 cards)
What is an ecosystem?
An ecosystem is a unit that contains biotic (living) and abiotic (non-living) parts in an area
3 organisms in an ecosystem
Producers
Consumers
Decomposers
What is a producer?
A organism that uses sunlight energy to produce food
What is a consumer?
A organism that gets its energy by eating other organisms
What do consumers eat
Producers and other organisms
What is a decomposed
A organism that gets its energy breaking down dead materials - eg; dead producers, dead consumers, fallen leaves.
What organisms are bacteria and fungi
Decomposed
What is a food chain?
A food chain shows what eats what
What is a food web
A food web shows lots of food webs and how they overlap
What is the nutrient cycle?
When dead material is composed nutrients are released into the soil, the nutrients are then taken from the soil by plants. Plants may be eaten by consumers. When the plants or consumers die the nutrients are returned to the soil.
How will a change to the ecosystem effect the whole ecosystem
Some parts of the ecosystem are dependent to eachother
